note to self: kantian sublime and the big other
Just a note to myself for the time being.
If our age is, as Zizek suggests, one in which the Lacanian Big Other no longer exists, then I think I could characterize one recurring (and sometimes self-destructive) theme in my life as that of attempting to find a substitute for the Big Other in the Kantian sublime.

I often try to find it in Big Brother and give it a swift kick.
I'm too wimpy at the moment to give it the swift kick it deserves. Will you give it one for me?
I may have met my "swift kick quota" for the decade, but I'll try to negotiate.
